I thought it would be fun and educational for my youngest daughter (5 years old) to attend a "fun camp" at a local school near our home. The camp is fun and she enjoys it, but there is a little boy who has decided to bully her. Last week was the first week of camp and he pinched her arm hard to hurt her. This week he has hit her. She said she did tell the teacher that he hit her and the teacher admonished the little bully to be nice. I didn't say anything to the teacher last week, because I didn't want to make a big thing out of a little pinch.

I was at the Coastal Home Educator's Conference "CHEC 2008" all day yesterday and attended a Q&A Panel Session on Homeschooling and visited several of the booths in Vendor Hall. I think the booth that had the most visitors was Home4School Gear, a company that specializes in nature and science kits. Their booth brought the studious and curious to peruse everything from a rock tumbler that produced beautiful smooth polished rocks to cow's eyeballs for science dissection study. I've posted the Speaker/Vendor Workshop Schedule for CHEC 2008 (a Parenting & Homeschool Conference) online at www.GoCHEC.org. Speakers will be giving presentations on topics such as Remediating Academic Weaknesses, How to Control Anger, Using Scripture in Child Training, the Charlotte Mason method, hands-on MathUSee, and more. The conference is next Friday and Saturday, May 30-31 at Community Bible Church on Parris Island Gateway. The public is invited and children are welcome. Blessings, Joyce

I've been perusing The Heart of Anger - Practical Help for the Prevention and Cure of Anger in Children by Christian author and family counselor Lou Priolo. He'll be the featured speaker at CHEC 2008 the Coastal Home Educator's Conference May 30 - 31. I'm flinching just reading some of the chapter headings like Angry Kids, Provocative Parents, Disrespect & Manipulation, Discipline: What it Really Means. I guess because I talk with so many moms while we're out at gymnastics, music, field trips, etc., and many of them are dealing with angry kids or teens, I'm telling them about CHEC. Mr.
