I've been perusing The Heart of Anger - Practical Help for the Prevention and Cure of Anger in Children by Christian author and family counselor Lou Priolo. He'll be the featured speaker at CHEC 2008 the Coastal Home Educator's Conference May 30 - 31. I'm flinching just reading some of the chapter headings like Angry Kids, Provocative Parents, Disrespect & Manipulation, Discipline: What it Really Means. I guess because I talk with so many moms while we're out at gymnastics, music, field trips, etc., and many of them are dealing with angry kids or teens, I'm telling them about CHEC. Mr. Priolo will be giving two talks (one on The Heart of Anger) during the event to encourage, teach and give practical help to parents. He'll also have a booth set up at the conference to speak with parents and his books will be available for sale. This is the second year I've helped organize this event. It has morphed from a small used book and curriculum sale into a full-fledged parenting and homeschool conference with speakers and workshops, a Vendor Hall with new curriculum & book sellers, and a huge used curriculum and book sale - the BOOK BLAST. We had over 500 attendees last year that included NC, FL and GA residents, as well as our local audience. This is a family event, so kids under 18 are admitted free and are welcome, as long as they do not disturb the other participants. CHEC us out at www.GoCHEC.org
