I was at the Coastal Home Educator's Conference "CHEC 2008" all day yesterday and attended a Q&A Panel Session on Homeschooling and visited several of the booths in Vendor Hall. I think the booth that had the most visitors was Home4School Gear, a company that specializes in nature and science kits. Their booth brought the studious and curious to peruse everything from a rock tumbler that produced beautiful smooth polished rocks to cow's eyeballs for science dissection study. I first thought it was a mollusk... Any way there were other fun booths by Usborne, Discovery Toys, Apologia, Institute for Excellence In Writing, as well as hard curriculum suppliers like ABeka and MathUSee. Today is the final day of CHEC 2008, and Lou Priolo, family counselor and author of Heart of Anger, Teach Them Diligently, and People Pleasers will be speaking at 9:30 am at Community Bible Church in Beaufort. There is a full day of Workshops scheduled that deal with educating children, special learning styles, struggling learners and writers, just to name a few. The Vendor Hall will be open from 9am-4pm showcasing the latest and best in curriculum and learning aids. The public is invited and children are welcome. Register at the door $10 per adult. www.GoCHEC.org
