Our 7-week-old doesn't seem to like to take naps in the afternoon/evening. We've really been working at lying him down at nap time and letting him cry and calm himself (until he gets to whaling for a couple minutes and then we check on him). But it's been very hard to get him to settle down. We're trying not to use the pacifier to do that - but sometimes that's all that works. And even then if he does go to sleep - it's only for 15-30 minutes and then he wakes up again.
He will fall asleep in our arms or in the swing - but of course we don't won't that to be the norm. And even if he does fall asleep in our arms and we move him to the crib, once he realizes that's where he is - he wakes up.
Any advice from seasoned veterans?

I have two children. The first was a very difficult baby. He had colic, reflux, etc. The worst, however, was that he did not like to sleep!!! He would take 10 - 15 minute catnaps, so the first six months of his life are a complete blur to me (I was exhausted all the time!). A friend told me about the book "On Becoming Babywise." I was so tired that the idea of actually reading something was overwhelming, but I am so glad that I did. That book became my "baby bible" and helped me get my son on a schedule. It is really tough at first, but life is so much better once everyone gets with the program. My second baby turned out to be a great sleeper (she's a handful now at 18 months, but as a baby, she was great!). However, I began the Babywise method with her a lot sooner than with my first. Now I recommend the book to all of my friends who are first time mothers. Good luck!!
