As a working mom, I am always looking for something fun to do with my daughter on the weekends, and if it is something we can do outside, even better. I saw an article in Island Today about a petting zoo in Ridgeland and thought that sounded great. Price was right, $15 for mom, dad, child and a cup of cracked corn to feed the animals. I thought, even if it is small, Z is 3, she will love to see the animals, so I wasn't expecting Jacksonville Zoo or anything like that. What we found was appalling. The animals were filthy, the tour guide was horrible, and most of the animals are in stalls where you can only see them if you are taller than average and the animals were willing to poke their heads out. The "ranch" itself appeared to be well maintained, but the animals, and not just the pot-bellied pigs--were caked in mud, wood chips, straw and in some cases their own poo! Some of the animals appeared to be suffering from colds too... To anyone who reads the article I read, and thinks that it is a great idea of a way to spend an afternoon...it really isn't.

I am really sorry to hear that I am always looking for stuff to do also I havent tried that one out yet but thanks for the headsup. I should warn my Best Friend she is a teacher and that is where she is taking her class for the year end field trip. I will let her know for sure.I hope your little one wasnt to dissapointed..
I've read about this petting zoo also and was hoping to make a trip there. I'm glad you posted about this so I'll skip this one unless I hear about it improving. Which by the way, isn't there some sort of agency that should know about the poor condition of the animals there?

Bee City in Cottageville S.C. has a great petting zoo. They also give a great class on bees. Kids love it. Our class goes every year. You also get to do several activities and you bottle your own honey. Food is great also. Google Bee City. Nice website with all of there info.
