Moms Forum: Crafts for school parties?

Moms Forum spotlights useful discussion taking place on the parenting forums of newspapers around the country.

QUESTION: "OK, I'm a new PTA mom ... and I've volunteered to be my DS's 'room parent' for his kindergarten parties this year ... I'm not sure what I got myself into! ... I'm not the least bit crafty and I have to come up with some 'things' to keep these 24 feisty creatures happy, scared and busy for an hour. Any ideas you'd like to share for crafts/activities, etc.?

RESPONSES:

"I know that Family Fun magazine has an idea database on their Web site. Arts and crafts, parties, games, etc.: http://familyfun.go.com/

These sites also look pretty good:

"Find a couple of pictures that they can color. You need a few games - ring toss and eat the mini doughnut off the string work good for kindergarten. Cotton-ball ghosts work good too. Put a Kleenex over a cotton ball, then tie it on with a piece of orange yarn and have the kids draw faces on them."

"Can't recommend what TO do, but I can definitely recommend NOT to do anything involving glitter. It makes a huge mess, and your kids' school's janitor will absolutely hate you until your dying days if he/she has to try to get all that glitter swept/vacuumed up after you're done."
